Tuesday 10 June, all day Engels’ Beard The Create Cube Installation

Engels’ Beard

Tuesday 10 June

The Create Cube

In the 1980’s, plans were put on hold to erect a statue of socialist figurehead Friedrich Engels in Manchester. Now nearly 30 years later, a group of artists have been inspired by the story after reading about the plans in a book by Hacienda DJ and University of Salford guest lecturer Dave Haslam. However, rather than a run-of-the-mill statue of the man himself, the artists have chosen to recreate Engels’ signature magnificent beard as a symbol of his wisdom.

The bikes will eventually be on display at various destinations throughout The Quays, such as The Lowry and The Imperial War Museum, however, you can see them first when they are displayed in The Create Cube.

Shock Radio

Shock Radio’s Performing Monkeys will be on air on Saturday 14 June to introduce the ‘voices’ behind the Create Festival. Our final year performance student Suzanna Amato will run a ‘marathon micro interview’ programme to unveil what’s on offer over the weekend of the festival. There might be some spoilers and some games to play and prizes to be won! Tune in to Shock Radio to listen.
